Residents of the countryside
I wanted to start giving devlogs normal names (like "Version 0.2.22 released"), but I just couldn't resist... Anyway, without further ado: to the list of changes.
New monster: Cow Girl
The Cow Girl joins the cast! The Cow Girl is a hot-tempered lady who will rush to the hero and try to knock him down, and then think about what to do with him. If the hero isn't particularly good-looking, he'll be simply trampled (a fate that's not very pleasant - have you seen the hooves?). If the hero is handsome, the Cow Girl still won't be in a hurry to let him go, but will be much more polite.
As you've already realised, Cow Girls are quite dangerous; what should one do if not prepared to meet them? Well, it's not all bad. First, just because the Cow Girl will try to knock you down doesn't mean she'll succeed; if the hero is agile enough he can dodge - then the Cow Girl will run past you and next turn she'll be disoriented, trying to figure out where the fidgety weirdo (you, that is) has gone. Secondly, cows don't have good eyesight. If you're walking in the open, they'll notice you, of course; but if you're sneaking close to a fence, the cows won't see you, even if you're a step away from them.
New item: a bottle of milk
You can drink it yourself or give it to Catgirl - she'll appreciate the natural product. This item is not randomly generated (that means it doesn't show up on the map). So how do you get it? Well, figure it out, Sherlock xD
New monster: Bunny
Okay, okay, not that one, here's the real Bunny:
Have you heard the expression "to fuck like rabbits"? She'll show you where it comes from. The Bunny Girl is so insatiable that satisfying her once isn't enough - after a while, she'll come around and follow the hero, literally jumping on him. Though it's difficult to "overcome" her, it's still possible to do so knowing that she has very sensitive ears (I didn't tell you that, by the way).
New mechanics: teleports
The teleporters look the same as the level exit and are activated in the same way (by pressing 5 on the NumPad or the spacebar). However, they lead not to the next level, but to a specific location on the current level. For now, teleporters are only available in one encounter (more about that in the next paragraph), but they'll be generated on regular maps too in the future.
New encounter: the Succubus' intro
This is a new type of encounters, designed to let you, the player, get acquainted with a meaningful character. Each character will have their own special encaunter (or even several of them). The Succubus gets hers first; you'll find yourself in her dungeon, which isn't easy to get out of, especially if someone is constantly buzzing in your ear...
Please note: chronologically, according to the story, the intro-encounter happens before all the character scenes. If you're playing the game for the first time, so it will be; but if you've played the game before and have seen some Succubus scenes, obviously the order will be broken for you. I could add an automatic save-wipe to the game and use it when adding new intro intros, so you can evaluate all the scenes in proper order, but I decided not to do that for now.
Miscellaneous
- Saving the game between levels
Previously, the game was only saved when exiting to the menu. Of course, this is too seldom for games of this genre, but saving every turn is too "heavy" (both in terms of implementation and in terms of user experience). As a compromise, the game will automatically save when transitioning between levels.
- Versions of the saves
As promised, I've added versions to the save files. Now, if you enter the game after the update and you had an unfinished run, the game will automatically upgrade your save to the latest version to avoid bugs / crashes. If something still doesn't work, please let me know and I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.
- Manslaughter
As you may know, this game is not about killing. However, the hero does have the ability to fight back when he is hit, and occasionally this ability has to be used. Due to the fact that the exact amount of health an opponent has is unknown to the player (there is no stethoscope in the game yet), it is sometimes possible to underestimate your strength and accidentally kill someone, which will lead to the Game Over. To avoid such situations, you can no longer accidentally kill: the first time a monster girl has to take lethal damage, some of it is prevented and the girl is left with 1 HP and the player sees a special message.
- Gallery update
New girls' entries have been added to the gallery, as well as missing encounters. This brings the number of entries in the gallery to 39, of which 4 are scenes.
Known Issues
- If you transform into a goblin and a Cow Girl knocks you down, the character model will look as a human. That's because I forgot to order the goblin tile, and when I noticed it, it was too late xD. This will be fixed in the next update.
